In a very public way Statcounter which is an awesome statistics provider and one that i personally use on one of my main sites, has drawn attention to solicitations by other statistic gathers who have begun inserting cookies.
I am very impressed that Statcounter management has turned this down. There are much more user friendly ways of monetizing a site, which have to do with providing a user friendly service that people recommend.
This is the path they have taken. Surprisingly this revelation has created a storm on Digg and their new Statcounter blog has been dug over 842 times which no doubt would have shot them on to page one of the popular social bookmarking site.
Statcounter is free with paid options but the free one is fine for most small web sites. I am
very happy with the reporting and service, plus they are unobtrusive and not constantly shoving stuff down our throats. The sort of guys that I am happy to support when the time comes to upgrade, which could be soon:)
WebmastersThe “Webmaster’s Tool” is a new and fast developing website gaining PR4 in the after only 3 months and reached 1000 unique visitors in a month after only 4 months of being uploaded. They have a very high ratio of returning visitors which says something. The webmasters tool is the place where all the demands of any webmaster are met. It has over 30 different unique tools categorised under 4 categories, SEO Tools, Domain Tools, HTML Tools and Miscellaneous Tools. The most popular tools they have is the “Search Engine Submitter” and the “Pagerank Checker”. The site also has a directory with over 3000 SEO-optimised links and also over 30 new links a day. They are also selling very good PHP scripts for only $1.
They have very good plan for “The webmaster’s tool” which will hopefully make it a much more adorable place. These include a fully functioning forum, a store for webmaster’s resources and scripts and finally a lot of unique, user friendly tools.
Pretty neat. So why not pop in and check out some cool webmaster’s tools to use on your site.
