How to use BBCode in forums and signatures.

Monday 31 October 2005 @ 9:57 am

If you are like me you may be a member of a forum. You’ve noticed those links at the end of forum posts. Well they are called signatures. If this is old hat to you, I’m sorry, but I looked around on the net recently and found it hard to find a good explanation for how to use BBCode in a forum signature.

A mighty revelation!

BBCode for forums and signatures is simple

But now the forums will not be without my beautiful looking BBCode, because I have found a neat little reference that explains signatures and also a few other techniques you can use in forums.

I vaguely knew how to do the link part but not the ‘anchor text’ i.e Finally BBCode for forum signatures explained

Hey, that’s 2 birds with the same rock. Visit the above link which contains BBCode examples for forums. Cool!

Personal and In Car Navigation Systems

Sunday 30 October 2005 @ 8:27 am

Wow! My friend Tom just bought a Nav Man personal navigation system. Actually, no it was a gift from his daughter. We had a lot of fun with it, driving about the city.

This things pretty smart. It readjusts itself if you go off route and then gives you the new route to your destination. The female voice is pleasant but I wouldn’t call it sexy. You wouldn’t want to make your wife or girlfriend jealous if you fell in love with your Nav Man.

I’m thinking of getting one myself. You see I regularly go off the beaten track - sometimes on public transport and if you can’t find a passer by to give you directions it can be a pain. This is the ultimate in
personal navigation. I’d never be lost again!

Stop! That’s it! I’m convincing myself more and more to buy one. I’ve got to stop writing now…

Google Blogs About Smart Pricing

Sunday 30 October 2005 @ 7:50 am

In response to a lot of talk recently about ’smart pricing’ with adsense, Suzie at Adsense Publisher support has posted an urgent clarification to dispel some mythology.

Since I have recently commented on smart pricing myself, I think it’s fair to include a link to it and worth a read.

My summary of the post is that:

  • Pricing is determined by the conversion rate, not clickthru rate. Google must measure this - though how they do this I confess I don’t know because not all advertisers have conversion tracking on.
  • Targeted traffic will increase both the CTR and the advertisers conversion rate - so this is an important factor for attracting higher priced clicks.
  • The sites at the top of this paradigm will make more and the ones at the bottom will make less.
  • Read Suzie’s post here

    What conclusions do you draw?
